About
Margaret de Quincy, Countess of Lincoln in her own right, was heiress of one surety baron's son and wife of another surety outright: her marriage to John de Lacy in 1221 joined the Quincy and Lacy shares of the Runnymede inheritance and made him Earl of Lincoln by her right. Widowed, she governed her own estates for a quarter of a century, one of the formidable dowagers of the age; the household book of advice written for her survives as a classic of medieval estate management. Her daughter Maud married Richard de Clare.
