About
Eadgifu of Wessex (c.902-after 951) was a daughter of Edward the Elder, King of the English, and granddaughter of Alfred the Great. Sent across the Channel to marry Charles the Simple, she saw her husband deposed and imprisoned, and fled with their small son to her brother King Æthelstan's court; where the boy grew up as 'Louis from overseas' before returning to be crowned King of France. She is one of the great bridges between the English and French royal houses, and our ancestor through Louis IV.
Research notes
✓ EADGIFU of WESSEX (c.902-aft.951), da. of EDWARD THE ELDER (I99939, already in the tree) by his 2nd wife AElfflaed (mother note-only - distinct from Eadgifu of Kent I100143, the 3rd wife); queen of Charles the Simple; mother of Louis IV (our line). This rung LOOPS the Carolingian spine onto the existing house of Wessex - Alfred the Great stands behind the last Carolingians of this tree. Standard well-documented medieval royal/comital genealogy per the cited authorities (web-confirmed 7 Aug 2026); contested rungs note-only, not hardened.
