About
Gilla Patraic mac Donnchada (killed 996), King of Osraige, gave his name to a dynasty: his descendants the Mac Gilla Patraic are the Fitzpatricks, one of the very few Gaelic royal houses whose name endures as a surname ennobled into modern times. He was slain by Donnaban of the Waterford Norse and the king of the Deisi.
