About
Aife of Osraige, daughter of Gilla Patraic, King of Osraige, married Donnchad Mael na mBo of the Ui Cheinnselaig and was mother of Diarmait mac Mael na mBo, the king of Leinster who rose to be the most powerful ruler in Ireland. Through her the royal house of Osraige - the Fitzpatrick ancestors - joins this family.
Research notes
~✓ PER THE BANSHENCHAS as accepted by DIB (both the Diarmait a2570 and Donnchad Mael na mBo a2692 articles: he 'married Aife, daughter of Gilla-Patraic king of Osraige'; sons Domnall Remur and Diarmait): AIFE, dau. of GILLA PATRAIC MAC DONNCHADA (d.996). ⚠ GENERATION TRAP (8 Oct 2026): WikiTree/Geni and an AI relay make her a daughter of DONNCHAD mac Gilla Patraic (d.1039) - chronologically impossible for Diarmait's mother (his father was slain 1006) and contradicted by DIB/Banshenchas; do not re-import. A Banshenchas-type tradition of other marriages for her (Ui Dunlainge) is note-only, unverified. Wired 8 Oct 2026 (Osraige maternal audit).
