About

Ordgar (d. c.971), ealdorman of Devon, was a great landowner of the south-west; later tradition said he held estates in every parish from Exeter to Frome; and the father of Queen Ælfthryth, whose marriage to King Edgar the Chronicle records in 965. His family's foundation of Tavistock Abbey, completed by his son Ordulf, kept the house's name alive in the west country.
