About
Anmchad mac Con Cherca, King of Osraige from about 742, was the most militarily active king in Munster in his generation: the annals track him year by year - devastating Cenel Fiachach in 742, breaking the Deisi, ravaging Fotharta Fea in 754, and twice victorious at the pass of Gowran, where in 761 he killed Donngal mac Laidcnen, King of the Ui Cheinnselaig. Then the record simply stops: he disappears after 761, dead by 769 when the kingdom's civil war began. His killing of the Ui Cheinnselaig king is a family irony: both dynasties, killer's and killed's, are this tree's own.
Research notes
~ WIRED 9 Oct 2026: PERSON = richly ANNAL-ATTESTED CAREER (AU/AT 742.2, 754.6, 759.6, 761.2-3 - campaigns and named battles) though NO OBIT - death presumed 761x769 (vanishes from record; Toim Snama ruling by 769); career-attestation accepted in lieu of obit under the person-attestation rule. FILIATION: son Fergal's patronymic + Book of Leinster king list (successor of Forbasach per list). *** FRONTIER - THE FIRM CEILING OF THE OSRAIGE SPINE (9 Oct 2026): his father CU CHERCA (d. c.713 - the 'c.' is a list-date, and the 7th-century succession is 'obscure', its kings 'little more than names' per Charles-Edwards/Mac Niocaill) is NOTE-ONLY; above him the Dal Birn pedigree runs through Scandlan (d.643, Adomnan's Life of Columba) and Colman to the legendary deer-eponym OENGUS OSRITHE - legend-country, never to be wired short of new primary evidence. ***
