About
Fulk II 'the Good' (d. c.960), Count of Anjou, was remembered less for war than for letters: a poet-count credited with composing chants for the church of Tours, he is the source of the famous rebuke to the King of France; that 'an unlettered king is a crowned ass'. The Angevin taste for learning, like the Angevin temper, became hereditary. Our line runs through his son Geoffrey Greymantle.
